Construction Gantt Chart Example

A real, visual Gantt chart for a residential project. Switch between a kitchen remodel, a bathroom remodel, and a new home build to see how the phases sequence, overlap, and depend on each other.

What is a construction Gantt chart?

A construction Gantt chart is a horizontal bar chart that maps every phase of a project against a timeline. Each row is a task, like demolition or cabinet install, and each bar shows when that task starts and how long it runs. Contractors use it to sequence trades in the right order, spot where work overlaps, and see how a slip in one phase pushes the rest of the schedule. Read it left to right and you have the whole job on one screen.

How to read this chart

  • Rows are phases or tasks, listed top to bottom in roughly the order they start.
  • Columns are weeks. The bar position shows the start week and the bar length shows how many weeks the task runs.
  • Color groups tasks by trade, so you can see at a glance which crew is on site each week.

Why the sequence matters

The order is not random. Rough plumbing and electrical go in before drywall closes the walls. Countertops are templated only after cabinets are set, then fabricated and installed a week or two later. Paint goes on before the final fixtures so you do not splatter new hardware. Miss one dependency and the bars after it all shift right.
