How clients pick allowances in the portal

Share a portal link so your client can browse options and make selections on their own.

Once you've set up allowances on a project, your client can review the options and make their picks right from the client portal. Here's what the process looks like from your side.

From the project page, send your client their portal link. You can do this by email directly from Kaliun or by copying the link and sending it however you prefer.

Client opens the allowances page

When your client clicks the link, they land on their portal. They'll see an Allowances section showing every allowance you've created, organized by group.

Client picks their options

For each group, the client selects the option they want. They can see the client price for each option, compare choices, and take their time deciding. They don't see your builder cost — only the price you've set for them.

Client saves their selections

Once they've picked their options, the client clicks Save. Their selections are locked in and you get notified.

Review the selections

Back on your project, go to the Allowances tab. You'll see which options the client chose, along with the builder cost and your margin on each one.

What happens next

  • Kaliun creates an expense for each selection using the builder cost — these show up in your committed budget automatically
  • The Budget tab updates to reflect the new committed costs, so your job costing stays accurate without any manual entry
  • If the client changes their mind before the due date, they can update their selections and the expenses adjust accordingly

Set a due date on each allowance so clients know when they need to decide. Late selections can delay your project timeline and material orders.
